3M CANADA CELEBRATES 70 YEARS OF SCOTCH® VINYL ELECTRICAL TAPE

Feb 12, 2016

The story of 3M began in 1902, when the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Co. was established as a mining operation.  A few decades later, when World War II caused a shortage of rubber, 3M scientists produced a viable alternative: vinyl.

During the next few years, Scotch® vinyl electrical tape set the standard in the electrical industry. Stronger and less prone to rotting and corrosion than the rubber and resin infused cloths that were commonly used at the time, Scotch® No. 33 Vinyl Electrical Tape was an invention the world was waiting for.

Through persistence, dedication to science and vision, the 3M vinyl electrical tapes of today continue to answer the needs of our customers.  Currently in its 17th incarnation, and 70th year, Scotch® Vinyl Electrical Tapes insulate, seal and protect electrical connections better than ever, even in extreme cold, heat and moisture.

3M Canada is celebrating this milestone with a full year of tips and tricks, fun facts, videos, contests and more.  Follow 3M on Twitter @3M_Canada or check out the website www.3M.ca/ElectricalTapefor the latest updates, product demos, event photos and contest announcements.  We’d also love to hear our customers’ vinyl electrical tape stories, just use  hashtag #TapeInventors to make sure 3M sees the post.
